The camps are well established forms of outdoor education. Concept of camps in Sikhism is not new, visit to "Dastar Asthan" at Paonta Sahib tells us that the camps to promote the personality of a Sikh use to be held by Guru Gobind Singh Ji. Even modern scientific evidence points out that camps effect positive psychological changes in attendees. Sikh parents within the western hemisphere are concerned that the strong pull of assimilation is beginning to wash away the Sikh identity from their children; some Sikh children have been isolated from their community as they do not know any other Sikh families other than their relatives. Summer camps are a chance for passing on our religious values and traditions to our young Sikhs. With this in mind the Guru Granth Sahib Web Academy has decided to hold one week summer camp for young Sikhs in Toronto, Canada. The camp will be held in the month of August, and each camp will consist of around 15 - 20 students. Various activities at camp will include:
On the last day of camp there will be joint session for both the children and the parents. This way, the parents will be updated on what their children have learnt during the camp and how the parents need to implement a Sikhi atmosphere at home. As well, how the children can stay strong and motivated to learn and practice their Sikhi in their lives.
